Bootleg & Improvisation

I got this stupid/funny idea the other night that I should make some surgical alterations to Cleymoore's remix of my track "6.4311" - here is the result

I dubbed it "ingemar's intellectual rocket food bootleg" in honour of this guy;

There was no real reason for me doing it other than it seemed like a fun thing to do (it was - and really I have  a billion other obligations that I disregarded when doing it). I cut some loops from Cleymoore's remix and went at them a little with filters in Cubase, and them loaded them into my Octatrack. I used four flex machines for samples, and three thru machines for drums and two synths, and lastly one pickup machine for the synth. Everything was recorded straight into Cubase (at like -12dB) and later "mastered".

the thing that happened after was, I just didn't stop - the recording went on and so did I on the octa. I didn't plan it as a liveset with "party" structure, but just a jam where I let the music take me in whatever direction it wanted. I contemplated editing out the first twenty minutes of the recording as I feel that those are the weakest, but I chose to let them stay because of the continuity with the bootleg. I might actually cut out minutes 20 to ~30 and use them as a standalone track...

I mastered it pretty much the same way I did with the bootleg, but actually that's only because I feel that if it's not 0dB on soundcloud, nobody will notice it. Therefor, if you like it, I'd be happy to send you the original file with full dynamics and clarity.

Oh, and about the name? Space Echo, could that be an infinitly complex anagram for anything you recognise? Think of my favourite minutes. Phil Spector is in there because I was thinking of a wall of sound when I finalised the recording.

I'm perhaps overly fond of ridicolously long track names, yes. It's half the fun.

Drone für alles

as common knowledge dictates, the wicked seldom rests. That would make me wicked then, seeing as I've managed to squeeze in quite a bit of productive time in between my other obligations.

Studying is taking up a lot of my time now, seeing as I am a full time student since three or four weeks. I have always had an inclination towards the borderline science/new age aspects of sound and music, reaching meditative states of mind whilst fully (and enhanced) conscious - frequencies and brainwaves and shit. you know. glowing crystal things. Anyhoo, I've made some studying tracks that's a nice change from the white or pink noice that I listen to.

Today I uploaded two pieces of ambient drone, one is of the soothing kind and the other is more meditative, suggesting contemplation (drone4) - feel free to download them, maybe even use them as stems or sommet, and if you feel like it send me a request on sc, fb or email for custom made pieces for you. Yeah thats right, if you ask nice I'll see what I can do for you.

Numbolic Cut

Swizz label Numbolic starts a new seriess of VA releases on which I have had the honour, alongside with Geoff Bell, St. Maarten and Robert Matthaei, to appear on the first edition of.

The tracks are groovy and hypnotic, so in other words they are right up my alley.

INGEMAR STALHOLM polar eagle

A few words about my track, "Polar Eagle"

Polar Eagle gives me synaesthetic impressions of mostly blue and white, and most of the high frequences comes from stuff other than the hihat departement -it gives me the impression of something very cold, arctic almost. I didn't much have this in mind when I started producing the track, but my mind was much occupied with the idea of "power animals" so in the future you will see some more of them little buggers :)

The track starts out in a very (even for me) deliberate way, building up from a recording i made on a late autumn day almost a year ago - I had had a few beers and was walking home from Hornstull in Stockholm, which at the time (maybe still it is?) was under re-construction. What you hear during the first few minutes are actually me walking to the subway.

The bass is made from some serious editing of an mfb-522 kick - basically the kick and two layers of bass are from the same sample. I imagine this brings some coherence to the mix. I mean, mixing up a kick or bass that isn't tuned to something that isn't doesn't feel very... professional...

The breakdown at 5.40 features a sample that is also recorded when I was on my way home (the same night) - it's the warning bells of a train crossing, played in reverse. Somehow they fitted in quite nicely.

The keys and pads played on top of everything I can't remember of the top of my head how I made, but probably with a free plugin called Majkens Chimera and lots of effects.

And also, if you are interested, I could find out who did the mastering - whoever it was I think he/she did a great job, just like with my remix for Lineas De Nazca, also released on Numbolic.

Kalimari reborn

Here's a new release to start up the infamous label Kalimari Musique Canada again, I'm very proud to have been given this honour!
